Some Changes and Errata!
Attentive readers will notice that some universities have changed since the first version of 'Revealed Performances'. The next lines will explain why
- I changed the way to allocate the articles for which no affiliation was given because now 11 years of data were available. Rather than taking the whole period, I now first look at the surrounding years (t-1,t,t+1). If that does not solve the problem, I take two years (t-2,t-1,t,t+1,t+2) and only if that does not solve the problem we take the whole period.
- The impact factor and the Bauwens weights changed from based on the period 1994-1997 to 1994-2000.
- Sometimes joint research centers were not correctly attributed if 'And' was used: as an example, Tinbergen Institute, Erasmus U became Erasmus U but Tinbergen and Erasmus was divided over three universities.
- I decided to include the 'Graduate Institute of international Studies, Switzerland' in 'U Geneva'
- In the first version I considered the SNF foundation in Norway as a separate research institute. However, SNF Oslo has become part of the University of Oslo. SNF, Bergen is now considered as part of the Norwegian School of Economics or The University of Bergen.
- There exist two Universities of Newcastle. Some articles were attributed to the U Newcastle in Australia while they should have been attributed to the U Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK
- There exist 4 'Victoria Universities'. Some articles have been attributed to the Victoria University in New Zealand while they should have been given to the Victoria University in Canada.
- Some people of the Indiana University Purdue University were not allocated to their university.
- I also checked several of the affiliations to institutions like 'U London', 'U Paris', 'CUNY', 'SUNY' and assigned them to the respective part rather than dividing the total of these institutions over the different parts.
While overall the influence of these chances is small, I apologize for any inconvenience.
